As part of the Clever Labelling solution you are able to design your own labels according to the requirements of your business, but to allow you to get up and running quickly we have also provided a set of Label designs out of the box.
From the Search feature in Business Central you can access the "Clever Label Designs" screen to view the current labels you have setup in the system, as shown below. When you first open the screen, if you are yet to setup label designs or to run the Default Configuration option then the screen will be blank. To setup the default Label Designs which are provided with Clever Labelling, choose the Default Configuration option from the Actions menu.
A "Clever Label Design" record will be configured differently, depending on whether you are printing directly from Business Central or using integration with Bartender and/or Loftware and the information that be configured for a Label Design is detailed below.
Code | This is a unique short code to represent the Label Design |
Description | A full description to easily identify the name/use of the label design |
Design Type |
The Design Type field identifies how the label will be produced, with the following options
|
External Label Design Name | Only Enabled for BarTender or Loftware - this is used to select the name of the label in the target platform |
Report Name | Only Enabled for the Report Design Type and enables the selection of the relevant Report through which the label has been designed |
Report Layout Type | If using BarTender or Loftware, this will be set to External. For Business Central reports you can select the Default layout, or Custom Layout for situations where you have a Custom Layout created and wish to use it |
Custom Layout Description | If the Report Layout Type is set to Custom Layout you will select the custom layout using this setup attribute |
Confirm Label Print | Tick this if you wish to provide the user with a confirmation dialog prior to printing any relevant labels - if you leave it blank then the system will system trigger the printout of the label if configured to do so |
Run Request Page | Used to determine whether to show the user the request page for the report. You should consider whether this is required based on the expected interaction with the user and also consider whether external applications may be triggering the label generation as it would not be sensible to turn this on in such scenarios |
No. of Copies | This attribute enables you to define the number of label printouts to produce - e.g. if you are receiving stock and wish to stick a label on each side of a pallet then you may want more than 1 copy |
Source Table Name |
This attribute shows the Table from which the label is pulling it's data. In the case of a Business Central Report the Source Table Name will be the primary table on which the report is built. Where using BarTender or Loftware, it is possible to select the table from which the label data will be built upon and in addition to this you can then define field and linked/calculated data using the Data Items attribute. |
Data Items | This field is used to define the Data Items that are to be included within the Label design, when using BarTender and Loftware integration, further information is provided in the Bartender and Loftware setup instructions. |
Within the "Clever Label Designs" screen, as previously highlighted you have the ability import the Default Configuration (to setup the default label designs) and alongside this you are able to Edit and create label designs. Options are also available to design the layout of the label and also the Barcode information that is presented on the label.
From the Label Design menu, there are the following options which enable you to configure the layout of the label and to also control what barcode information is shown on the label.
Copy |
This option allows you to copy an existing label design. As per the below example you are enter the new Target Design Code and Target Design Description for the label design and to create a New Custom Layout as part of the copy process. The final option is the Launch Trigger Wizard which can be selected if you want to immediately decide when you are going to use the new "Clever Label Design".
