Clever Packing supports Barcode Parsing when selecting a Containers on the Packing Portal as well as when confirming items onto the Packing Station.

As standard, we support the scanning of GS1 barcodes using both USB and Bluetooth Barcode Scanners, however Developers can also create their own Custom Parsers if needed for a specific use-case.

The Device used for scanning the Barcodes should support the following:

  •  Keyboard Wedge Mode – The scanner appears as a keyboard and pushes scanned Barcodes into the keyboard buffer as keystrokes on a keyboard.
  • AIM Prefix – The scanner should be configured to pass the AIM prefix as part of the scan.  This tells Clever Packing the symbology and encoding of a scanned Barcode so that it may parse it correctly.
  • FNC1 Separator Substitution – The GS FNC1 group separator is used to group and separate data in GS1 Barcodes.  Substitution allows Clever Packing to identify and decode variable length data in GS1 application identifiers.

The specifics of configuration will vary by brand and model of the scanner. Please check with your supplier.

The Default Barcode Parser works with Code3of9 and GS1 Barcodes.  Both 1D and 2D Barcodes should be supported dependent upon scanner hardware – for instance GS1-128 or GS1-DataMatrix.

The FNC1 Substitute Field should be set to the same Substitution Character as previously configured for your Device.
