Below are some of the common queries that can arise when using Clever Landed Costs in specific regard to financial transactions.

Why did the Inventory cost not get adjusted when the actual landed cost was invoiced at a different cost to what was expected?

The most obvious reason for this is that the Landed Cost Type is setup to use the Default Cost Treatment method. Using the Default method any difference will be posted to the Variance Account setup against the Landed Cost Type rather than updating the Item Inventory valuation.

Why has a Variance been posted?

A variance will be created when the actual landed cost invoice value is different to the expected cost that was accrued at receipt, an example of which is shown below.

Expected Landed Cost: 10.00
Actual Landed Cost: 15.00
Variance: 5.00

Where the variance posts to is dependant on the type of transaction, the Cost Treatment and the Item's Costing Method.

Scenario Variance Location
Purchase + Default Landed Cost Variance Account
Purchase + FIFO + Charge Item No separate Variance Account, actual cost updates inventory
Purchase + Standard + Charge Item Purchase Variance Account
Transfer + Default Landed Cost Transfer Variance Account
Transfer + FIFO + Charge Item No separate Variance Account, actual cost updates inventory
Transfer + Standard + Charge Item Purchase Variance Account

Why are Transfer Landed Costs treated differently to Purchase Landed Costs?

Business Central supports "Expected Cost Posting" for receipt transactions, but transfer costs for inventory are always posted using the Actual Cost within the Item Ledger and Value Entries. Clever Landed Costs therefore follows this principle, but will move accruals within the General Ledger to allow a clear breakdown of costs.

We're experiencing issues understanding the cost postings, what should be checked?

Depending on the Cost Treatment that's in use the following setup should be checked to identify any obvious issues. If unsure you should review the Financial Posting walkthroughs in the preceding help articles.
